Welcome to Psyche Design
Hello, I’m Meghan LeVota. Psyche Design is my container for all things individuation. It’s a podcast, a YouTube show, a blog, and whatever else emerges out of this. My interest in the individuation journey began through Jungian personality theory about ten years ago. Jung’s idea of the 8 psychological types (or, cognitive functions) make up the popular 16 personality type patterns (which are essentially collective stereotypes). However, these 8 kinds of consciousness (or, psychic energies) are the building blocks that make up the psyche.
Our psyche is made up of both light and dark spots, and what our ego knows to be true is not the full story about the Self. The journey back to the Self is the process of casting light upon our shadows, over and over again. The path is a never-ending spiral. We will never fully transcend our egos, but we can inch closer and closer to wholeness. This process activates what Jung calls “the transcendent function” which is a form of consciousness that emerges beyond polarity; when 1+1 becomes 3.
Using Jung’s theory of the psyche and personality, we can essentially begin to map out the larger environment of our psyche — making it easier to navigate back to the Self. The 8 functions are best served as vocabulary terms that help the mind make sense of where it is located. This is especially useful if you find yourself in foreign territory!
Knowing your best fit type can help you get acquainted with your inner paradox, giving you a framework to assist you in illuminating your shadows. The individuation journey happens without our conscious control, shadow naturally seeks the light. But we can help things run a little smoother by holding space for nature’s opposites. This initiates the transcendent function and eliminates emotional resistance.
But there are other ways to walk this spiral path. Psyche Design was born from an interest in personality, but it is becoming much more. Ideally, the goal is to have conversations that empower 1) strength of integrity within individuals and 2) greater solidarity between people and groups.
